Your first priority should be the "Pleasure Craft Operator Card" or PCOC. This "Good for Life" certificated is equivalent to a Driver's License, only for motorized boats. The boating course or the PCOC "Boat Pro" course will get you started. The PCOC card will be mandatory for all operators by the end of September 15th, 2009. Already have your PCOC? Good! An Operator Card for a VHF-DSC radio is an excellent investment, even if you always boat in sight of land. A mechanical breakdown or medical emergency will demonstrate just how useful the radio can be. Own a GPS, but not totally familiar with it? Take the Navigating with GPS course and find out about all the information your GPS is trying to tell you! Have you plans to cross the lake, or the ocean? Seamanship, Advanced Piloting, Celestial Navigation will get you there, even after you dropped your GPS in the drink. Weather Fundamentals and Global Weather will help you understand the weather. RADAR, Extended Cruising, Marine Maintenance - have a look, we are certain to have something of interest to you.
The London Power and Sail Squadron Training Department is offering courses subject to sufficient enrolment and availability of materials and instructors – Click here to view the London Squadron curriculum.
